In an era of specialization, Reavis senior Delyanna Arocho stands apart from her peers.
Arocho is one of the area’s busiest athletes — if not the busiest — as she competes in four sports for the Rams.
Arocho runs cross country — and also plays travel soccer — in the fall before moving on to basketball in the winter and juggling track and soccer in the spring.
It’s in basketball that she’s been the spark plug for a resurgent Rams team that heads into 2026 with an 8-4 record after going 9-20 last season.
Reavis won its first three games at the Peotone Blue Devils Holiday Tournament before falling 63-23 to Joliet Catholic in the final on Dec. 29. But with players like Arocho and sophomore guard Daijah Vidana — who scored 15 vs. JCA — leading the way, the arrow is pointing up for the Rams.
“She’s everything to us,” Reavis coach Tim Zasada said of Arocho. “She’s probably one of the best female athletes we’ve had at our school. … She’s averaging about 17 (points) a game for us, so yeah, she’s phenomenal.
“She’s a great kid. She’s a competitor. She doesn’t like to lose.”
Besides leading the Rams in scoring, Arocho also excels on defense and usually guards the opposing team’s top scorer.
“She’s done things at our school that no one else has ever done,” Zasada said. “She’s gonna be missed next year for sure.”
Why does she keep up such a hectic athletic schedule?
“Honestly, just doing them brings me joy,” she said.
Does she prefer one over the others? That’s almost like asking a parent which is their favorite child.
“I’ve played soccer all my life,” Arocho said. “But recently, over the years, I’ve gotten better at running so that’s gotten up there for me.”
She hopes to compete in college, most likely in cross country and track, and has talked with North Central, among other schools.
That’s down the road, though. Arocho is focused on basketball at the moment. She’s upbeat about the Rams’ chances for the second half of the season.
“Last year, we were, like, newly formed,” she said. “After a year of experience … we’ve all gotten together and our chemistry has gotten better.”
It helps to have another offensive option in Vidana.
“We like her future,” Zasada said. “She’s got a lot of things she needs to work on, but she was a spark (against Joliet Catholic). …
“She’s a scorer and she handles the ball well. She’s gonna have to learn how to drive a little more. … Her shots that she hit were runners from the free-throw line and they need to be a little deeper.”
