Here’s something some parents learn too late: while everyone’s scrambling to see Santa in early December, the real pros know the best Santa visits happen when the crowds thin out after later in the month.
There’s a whole second wave of Santa events that run right up until Christmas Eve — and they’re often less chaotic than the early holiday rush.
The Late-December Santa Circuit:
- Orland Square Mall keeps Santa available every single day through Christmas Eve, with extended hours December 15-23 and final photos on Christmas Eve morning (9 a.m.–5 p.m.).
- Worth Township offers free Santa visits December 9-10 at their Alsip location (11601 S. Pulaski Rd.), including a special “Silent Santa” session for kids with sensory sensitivities.
Weekend Warriors (December 13-14):
- Multiple communities coordinate Santa appearances the same weekend, perfect for families who want options. Palos Park hosts Breakfast with Santa at Kaptur Administrative Center (10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Saturday).
- Evergreen Park throws Santa’s Wonderland with vendors and activities (Saturday). Tinley Park serves up Holly Jolly Hotcakes breakfast at Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center (Saturday morning). Bridgeview runs Santa’s Workshop at the park district (Sunday 2 p.m.).
- The Ultimate Santa Experience: Odyssey Fun World in Tinley Park does brunch with both Santa AND the Grinch on December 14 (9 a.m.–1 p.m.), including unlimited rides and games.
Bonus secret: Palos Heights has Santa’s actual mailbox at their Recreation Center through December 19 — kids can drop letters and get responses if they include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
