Tim Zasada has given up the head football coaching job at Reavis.
But he’s not giving up on coaching. And he’s not giving up on football
Zasada, who said he will continue to coach girls basketball at the Burbank school, cited the overwhelming workload of being a head football coach as a reason he stepped down. He said there are too many things about being a head coach that have nothing to do with football, and he wants to get away from that.
But it’s possible that next fall, he will be back on the Rams sidelines.
“One of the things we talked about is that I’m still willing to coach,” he said. “I don’t have to be the head football coach. I could be a lower-level coach or an assistant. I did that at TF North for awhile and it was rewarding.
“If whoever they hired were interested, I would be willing to stay here at Reavis because I love it. I would love to just work with the kids and not all that other stuff to get this thing where it needs to be. Who knows? You never know.”
Before heading to Burbank in 2012, Zasada coached at TF North and Hammond (Ind.). Reavis was 1-17 in the two years before his arrival. He finished 72-58 with the Rams, including eight playoff appearances.
“A head football coach, in my opinion without disrespect to anyone, at a school with 1,800 kids is a tough job,” the 54-year-old Zasada said. “It’s a demanding job. It’s a job that requires a lot of different things that you do on a day-to-day basis that has absolutely nothing to do with football.
“I don’t want to deal with the other stuff — let someone else do that. My time has passed for that stuff.”
