The Village of Monee has a new public works building.

They were doing a bit of showing it off on a Saturday morning. It is spacious, but not lavish, and certainly worth boasting about.

Visitors during the Open House, following the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, were treated to behind-the-scenes tours of the facility at 5755 W. Industrial Drive.

The project began in 2024, when the village board of trustees approved the construction bid.

The total budget for the Phase 1 project was budgeted for $12,000,000. The bid for the project came in at $11,118,789.

Ground was broken on July 8, 2024, to start construction of the 42,000-square-foot facility. It includes 12,000 square feet of office space and 30,000 square feet of garage space.

“It is a much needed building for our DPW staff. They had outgrown their current location, and this provides ample space for all their needs, including an area to hold/host training sessions,” Mayor Therese Bogs noted.

During the ribbon-cutting, Bogs called the department “the backbone of our daily operations.”

She said it was “a great honor to stand before you as we celebrate the grand opening of our new department of public works building. This facility is more than just bricks and mortar.”

“It represents our village’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and service. The hardworking men and women of the DPW are the backbone of our daily operations, ensuring clean streets, safe infrastructure, and reliable public services. This new building gives them the space, tools, and resources they need to continue doing that work with excellence.

“I want to thank everyone who played a part in bringing this project to life – from the planners and architects (Farnsworth Group) to the construction crews (PBS), and DPW leadership. Your vision and dedication made this a reality.

“This investment in our public works department is an investment in our future,” she said. “And together we’re building a stronger, more resilient village for all.”

Monee’s public works department is headed by Ed Johnson, superintendent, and Jill Donati, executive assistant.

The department employs 13 full‐time staff members, who implement, deliver, operate, and maintain the village’s infrastructure systems.
