One road project is starting up.

Another is finishing up.

Palos Park Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walters said at the Oct. 13 village council meeting that Chicago Ridge-based Lindahl Brother Inc. will begin the 2025 Motor Fuel Tax project on Oct. 23 and it will be grinding the asphalt on McKinley Avenue.

She said it will work its way east to 92nd, 89th 88th and 120th streets.

“That’s very exciting that it is kicking off,” Milovich-Walters said.

She also reported that the Illinois Department of Transportation should be done with work on 123rd Street by the end of November.

Since June, the street has been closed to replace two culverts and to provide stability over creek crossings.

 Halloween fun

The village will host a pair of Halloween events coming up.

The Spooky Shuffle – a 5K and 10K run and walk – takes place at 9 a.m. Oct. 18 at Swallow Cliff Woods-South.

Last year, Matas Kemeza won the 5K race in 21 minutes, 43 seconds.

In 2023, Maxwell Mortensen won the 5K in 18:31 and Byron Timmel won the 10K in 42:49.

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 24, the village hosts a Halloween Park and Trick-or-Treating on the Green event.

It will feature games, crafts, treats and a spooky trail.

Planning meeting

The village’s Plan Commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 is important for residents to attend, according to Milovich-Walters and Commissioner Mike Wade.

Wade said the village proposes zoning map changes.

Properties affected include the Kaptur Center parking lot, Metra Station and Metra parking lot, Centennial Park, the Carlton Asphalt property, the Post Office and Oak Hill Cemetery.
