ICE agents were active in nearby suburbs this week and were caught on video making arrests in Summit and Bridgeview.
In Summit, at least two men were detained on Oct. 7 in the vicinity of 60th Place and 75th Court. Video shows the men with their hands ties behind their backs being escorted by ICE agents. In another photo, several agents can be seen talking with a man on a sidewalk.
Agents were also seen talking with residents on Oct. 9. ICE vehicles were also spotted hiding near the Thornton’s gas station at 59th Street and Harlem Avenue.

On Friday, the village issued the following statement in English and Spanish signed by Mayor Sergio Rodriguez:
“The Village of Summit understands that these are very challenging times for many in the community with respect to reported ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) activity in the area.
“A sharp increase in federal immigration law enforcement has been observed, which has generated uncertainty and fear in our communities. We want to reassure our community that the Village of Summit remains committed to protecting our residents.
“If you believe you are witnessing ICE activity, call the ICIRR’s 24-hour family support hotline at 1-855-HELP-MY-FAMILY (1-855-435-7693) to report it.
“If you find yourself interacting with an ICE official anywhere, including your workplace or in the community, remember that you:
“Have the right to remain silent when questioned or arrested by immigration officials. You should remain calm and keep your hands where the official can see them.”
The village also advised residents:
- Do not share your immigration or citizenship status with the police, immigration agents, or other officials.
- Do not sign anything you do not understand. You must state that you wish to speak with an attorney.
In Bridgeview, two men employed by John’s Pro Tree Service were detained Thursday by ICE agents while working at a house in the 7500 block of Sholer Avenue. One of the men was arrested at the scene and the second man was chased down by an ICE agent after a foot chase.
A village official said there was no advance warning from ICE that its agents would be operating in the village.
Homeland Security said more than 1,000 people have been arrested since Operation Midway Blitz began a month ago.

It matters not if they’re tree workers or brain surgeons, illegal is illegal.
The one common thread is that they are here all illegally. If anyone doesn’t agree with it contact your representative and have them change the law! Until they then enforce the laws!
You chuds with your “illegal” trope would’ve snitched on Anne Frank’s family to the Nazis & seen to it that runaway slaves were returned to their masters.
You dick! Anne Frank or her family weren’t a burden on society increasing taxes, insurance, crime or milking the system for their own benefit. MANY people come into this country LEGALLY and have prospered. ALL Americans should be concerned about the illegal immigration problem in this country. Allowing people to be here unvetted is insane! This isn’t the Wild West anymore.
So when will John’s Pro Tree Service face penalties for hiring illegals?
Well it is about time that the federal government has started enforcing immigration laws!! I remember back in the late 1970’s seeing illegal Mexicans standing on the sidewalk along Archer Road and thinking “where did they come from”?? The whole town of Summit has changed for the worse with the way illegals have flooded the town. Somebody from my family has lived in Summit since the 1920’s with family members involved with the police dept, fire dept, school district, public works and many other community organizations. The overcrowding of schools, the overcrowding of the town clinics, the food pantries, the Latino gangs that came to Summit in the late 1970’s along with all the violence and drug dealing, and the graffiti and tagging associated with those Latino gangs. We the legal citizens of the United States support I.C.E. and the Border & Customs Agents!!! Keep up the good work!!!
