Huge crowds packed the Old Tyme Family Day celebration on Sunday, Aug. 31, making it one of the village’s biggest events.

The festival stretched across 43rd Street and Ridgeland Avenue, with a large fest area and plenty of parking.

Stickney Mayor Jeff Walik greeted residents eager to play bingo.

“We have some nice prizes and people really enjoy playing,” he said.

The petting zoo was a hit with the kids and adults.

Food trucks lined the grounds and drinks were available. Children filled the kids zone, bouncing on inflatables, getting their faces painted and watching balloon twisters.

The petting zoo drew steady traffic with sheep, chickens, a llama, goats and a donkey.

One child was thrilled to feed the animals. “I like how they eat it out of my hands,” she giggled.

The Lupo Band played classic rock before headliner Billy Gray Music took the stage with country hits ahead of the 9 p.m. fireworks show.

Admission was free, and the fireworks capped the night with a spectacular display.

Village trustees Leandra Torres and Jim Hrejsa, who helped organize the event, said it was a success.

“This was probably the best one ever,” Torres said. “The fireworks show was fantastic and the bands were wonderful.”

Walik agreed. “We had a huge turnout. Everyone has a great time. It just gets better and better,” he said.
