Is this the year the Chargers break through?
Stagg has lost 28 straight conference games since beating Thornridge 46-6 on Sept. 21, 2018 and hasn’t reached the IHSA playoffs since 2005.
But the Chargers have shown modest progress lately, winning three games in each of the past two seasons, and they return 12 players who started last season,
The senior starters back are running back/linebacker Olaf Kozub (6-0, 215), two-way lineman Marcin Turza (6-2, 290), linebacker/running back Landen Moreno (5-10, 200), linebacker Bradyn Driscoll (5-10, 185), offensive linemen Jamal Hakawati (6-0, 280) and Waseem Gorchene (6-2, 330), receiver Ibrahim Mustafa (5-11, 170), defensive back/receiver Saul Corral (5-11, 165) and senior defensive back Graham Courtney (5-11, 175).
Three juniors started last season: defensive back/receiver/quarterback Jaylen Logan (6-0, 180), tight end/defensive end Michael Kos (6-3, 220) and two-way lineman Manny Segovia (6-0, 195).
Other top returners include senior quarterback/linebacker Matthew Nyblom (6-0, 200), senior linebacker David Enriquez (5-10, 195), senior offensive lineman Jose Quiroz (5-10, 240) and senior receiver/defensive back Matthew Vogwill (5-7, 165).
