Conference: Public League North
Head coach: Jarve Lewis-Bey
2024 record: 5-5 (Lost 42-0 to Glenbard East in the first round of the Class 8A playoffs)
2025 outlook:
After winning three games in the previous three full seasons and going winless in 2021 and 2023, the Condors turned it around in their first season under Lewis-Bey and offensive coordinator Keenan Phillips-Riley.
Only 15 players were on hand for the first summer workout in 2024, but the program’s numbers increased during the season and they’ve continued to grow this season.
A number of the Condors’ top players also play for the perennial power basketball team, including senior quarterback/defensive back Gabriel Taylor (5-9, 180), senior running back/linebacker Saquan Commings (5-11, 190) and senior tight end/defensive end Kendall Holliday (6-3, 220).
Senior Darius Townsel (5-10, 180) returns as a productive running back, while juniors Mateo Acuna (6-3, 280) and Joshua Porcayo (5-10, 210) and senior Damian Perez (5-10, 260) are back as starting linemen. Two more senior starters back are receiver/tight end Ayden Mahaffey (6-3, 180) and outside linebacker Terrell Johnson (5-7, 160).
Some newcomers to watch are junior defensive end/tight end Doumarier Tabb (6-3, 220), senior two-way lineman Ja’Rell Brown (5-9, 215) and senior fullback Eric Contreras (5-10, 215).
Now that the program is back on the rise, goals include winning the conference — Curie finished in a three-way tie for second last season — and winning a state playoff game for the first time since 2017.
