U.S. Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (D-4th), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announced Thursday that Chicago’s Midway International Airport will receive $34,989,773 in federal grant funding to modernize and improve safety at the airport.

The grant was awarded by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration and will be used to rehabilitate and maintain the structural integrity of runways and taxiways, and minimize foreign object debris to extend their useful life–critical steps to ensure the Southwest Side airport continues to operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

“Midway Airport is a key hub for connectivity and jobs in my district, and maintaining its runways and taxiways is crucial for the safety of air travel, the efficiency of airport operations, and the longevity of its infrastructure,” said García. “As a frequent user of Midway Airport, I am confident that these investments will continue to make it an even more attractive option for travelers.”
