The fast response of Orland Fire Protection District firefighters helped to quickly extinguish a fire Tuesday afternoon at Marshalls department store.

The fire was reported about noon on the store’s loading dock in the Orland Park Place Mall at 153rd Street and LaGrange Road.

On arrival, firefighters found a fire on the exterior of the loading dock area, Interim Fire Chief John Purtill said.

Firefighters quickly evacuated the big box retailer’s building and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the loading dock.

Purtill said his crews were assisted by firefighters from the Palos Fire Protection District, and Tinley Park Fire Department.

“We are grateful to the support we received from neighboring fire departments and are very proud of the fast emergency response of our firefighters which prevented this fire from growing and causing more damage and threatening customers,” Purtill said.

“(The fire)  was discovered by Orland fire crews who were responding to another call. The crews saw the smoke and diverted to the fire, arriving about the same time the 911 calls were being received by dispatch.”

There were no injuries.

The store remains open to the public.
