Orland Fire Protection District officials said there were eight minor fires due to the use of fireworks but no injuries during Fourth of July festivities.

Interim Fire Chief John Purtill said firefighters responded to eight incidents involving fires on Friday, which included grass and prairie fires, and fires in trash cans and dumpsters.

One outdoor home deck also sustained fire damage as a result of private home fireworks displays, Purtill said, but that no one was injured in the fire incidents.

“Official July 4th celebrations have ended, and we’re pleased to report that despite numerous emergency calls, no one was injured during the celebration of 4th of July activities,” Purtill said Saturday.

“We continue to urge caution and to avoid the use of personal fireworks in order to avoid any injuries. Stay safe.”
