More than 100,000 hip hop fans packed SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview last weekend for Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash, a three-day music festival that launched summer in Chicagoland with blazing heat and big-name performances.
Founded by music video director and producer Cole Bennett, the fest sprawled across the stadium, turf fields and air-conditioned sports dome—complete with brand activations, food vendors and nonstop music from some of the biggest names in rap.
Future, Young Thug, and a Travis Scott surprise

Each night brought a new headliner. Don Toliver and Yeat lit up the Lyrical Lemonade stage Friday, parachuting in for a surprise joint performance. Future turned up the heat Saturday with a fire-engulfed stage and crowd-pleasing hits like “Superhero” and “Type S***.”
But the biggest moment came Sunday night, when Young Thug closed the festival with his first live performance since his 2022 incarceration. He performed from a glowing ring high above the stage, walked the crowd-facing runway, and even rose into the air on a lift.
Tens of thousands crowded in for the spectacle, and the energy peaked when Travis Scott made a surprise appearance. Fans surged forward to catch Scott and Thug perform “FE!N,” joined onstage by Future and Ken Carson.
Star sightings, food courts, and fire fangs
Between sets, attendees explored food courts and interactive sponsor booths. Brands like McDonald’s, Pepsi, and Portillo’s offered shaded lounges, free samples and air-conditioned breaks.

McDonald’s “Chef’s Remix” gave fans a look at upscale takes on classic menu items. Pepsi hyped its new lemon-lime soda, Starry, with dancing mascots and photo ops. The “Sinners” booth drew long lines to fit fans with silver fangs, a nod to the horror movie featuring Michael B. Jordan’s vampire twins.
Festivalgoers could fuel up with tacos, barbecue, Bacci pizza, Eiffel Waffles and Dippin Dots before dancing, moshing and posing at performances across three stages.
Chance the Rapper performed a hometown set inside the stadium, and celebrity sightings added more buzz: music interviewer Nardwuar, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, and even North West were spotted among the crowd.
“This festival is hot” — literally and figuratively
With temperatures soaring, many took shelter inside the Chill Dome. On Sunday, three first-time attendees — Meech, Twan and Dune — rested in the air conditioning ahead of Quavo’s set.
“We took a 24-hour trip from North Carolina to attend,” they said. “You got to do what you got to do to have fun.” They named Young Thug, Ken Carson and Quavo as their most-anticipated acts. “This festival is hot,” they added — a statement true both in spirit and in degrees.
