On a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon, neighbors filtered through the stalls at 6401 W. Narragansett Ave., marking the summer return of the Garfield Ridge Farmers Market — a weekly event now set to run every Wednesday through September.
“I love the neighborhood and the community is very supportive,” Kathleen Murphy, of Chicago, and owner of 2nd City Nurse Candles, said.
After storms forced a last-minute cancellation the week before, the Midway Chamber of Commerce officially opened the market’s 2025 season on June 11 with more than two dozen local vendors, food trucks and artists lining the lot.

The market runs from 3 to 7 p.m. and is designed to spotlight small businesses and build community ties in the Southwest Side neighborhood.
Handmade goods, fresh food and one-of-a-kind items filled tables under white tents. The full list of vendors throughout the summer season include:
· 2nd City Woodwork
· Hierbitas by Sandra
· Aunt Lizzie’s Baked Goods

The market features a mix of family-owned food vendors, crafters, artists and wellness entrepreneurs — many based in or near Garfield Ridge, including owner of Freedom Lei State of Mind, Maria Rodriguez.
“This market is one of the most organized and offers an incredible amount of support for small businesses within the community,” Rodriguez, of Chicago, said.
Organizers agree and say the weekly event is not just about shopping, but also about strengthening neighborhood pride and providing a space where residents can gather regularly.
The market will continue every Wednesday through October, offering new vendors and programming each week.
