Since 2016, Palos Park has designated two spots in the Kaptur Center parking lot as an online exchange zone.
The zone has increased, according to Police Commissioner Dan Polk.
“The entire parking lot is monitored 24/7 with video cameras,” Polk said. “So, the entire parking lot is now a safe place to conduct or finish online transactions if you need to meet up with someone and you give them something and they give you money or the other way around.
“It gives you a place to meet and handle the transactions.”
Polk added residents still need to be careful.
“We ask you to trust your instincts,” he said. “We ask you to not go alone. We don’t want you to invite strangers into your home nor do we suggest you go to theirs.”
