A 12-year-old boy drowned Friday night after he fell into Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs.
The boy was identified as Asael Gonzalez-Guel, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. They did not release a home town.
According to a Cook County Forest Preserve spokesperson, a dive team from the North Palos Fire Department responded to Camp Bullfrog Lake around 7:45 p.m. Witnesses said the boy and his 9-year-old brother were near the lake shoreline when they fell into the water.
Visitors fishing on the lake’s bank were able to pull the younger brother out of shallower water, officials said. They could not reach the older boy.
According to officials, the boy was unresponsive when first responders pulled him from the water about 20 minutes later.
He was taken to Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital in Palos Heights, where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.
