Before we know it, warm weather and live music will again be found at Countryside Park, like this show from last summer. The city council will soon announce this year’s lineup. (Photo by Steve Metsch)

Variety is not only the spice of life.

It’s also the recipe for success in the summer concert series offered by the city of Countryside.

Ald. Scott Musillami (3rd), who chairs the city council’s special events committee, recently noted that it is important to offer a variety of music.

And it’s also important, he said, to not invite the same bands back year after year. That keeps things fresh, he said.

Proof of that can be found in the varied lineup for eight shows on nine Thursdays this summer. There’s no show on Thursday, July 3.

It’s a good idea to bring chairs or blankets. Many bring their own coolers and food, too.

The concerts are free at Countryside Park and run from 7 to 9 p.m. A food vendor is signed up for each Thursday.

The annual fireworks night is set for July 31 with the rain date Aug. 7.

Here are the bands and vendors.

Rhythm Rockets, June 12: The band plays jazz along with rhythm and blues from the 1940s and ‘50s. The vendor will be Pisa Pizza.

Semple, June 19: The Chicago-based band plays a wide range of music. Buona Beef Food Truck and Rainbow Cone

The DBs, June 26: Bluegrass, blues and rock will be played. Da Taco Goat Food Truck and Rainbow Cone

Generation, July 10: Classic rock and soul. Ledo’s Pizza and Rainbow Cone.

Beyond the Blonde, July 17: Covers of Pink, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga and other female icons of pop and rock. Tacos Los Jarochitos and Rainbow Cone

Eric Case Band, July 24: Classic country and soulful rock. Wild Monk Bar and Rainbow Cone.

Strung Out Band, July 31: A tribute band covering hit songs from the 1970s. Ledo’s Pizza and Rainbow Cone. The opening band is Bipolar Bear.

Anchors Away Aug. 7: Yacht rock from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s. Pisa Pizza and Rainbow Cone.

In March, the city council unanimously approved a contract with Designer Event Chicago for $32,030 for the concert series. Westfield Ford is the sponsor.

There’s a free raffle for goodies during the intermission of each show.

Countryside Park is on 61st Street, about a half-block east of Brainard Avenue. Parking is available on local streets.
