After two years of meetings and discussions, Monee officials are moving ahead with plans for a new police department. The current building at 5357 W. Main Street was built 68 years ago and is no longer adequate for MPD’s needs.
During the May 28 meeting, the village board heard recommendations that will get the process started.
“At the April 14 Committee of the Whole Meeting, the village board received presentations from three highly qualified construction management firms: Leopardo Construction, Harbour Construction, and Core Construction,” Village Administrator Ruben Bautista said.
“Each firm presented their extensive company history and vast experience in municipal construction projects, specifically highlighting their capabilities and expertise in the development of new police department facilities. They also detailed their ability to provide comprehensive construction management services to the Village of Monee. “During the past two years,” Bautista continued, “considerable due diligence has been undertaken by the chief of police, members of his management team, the mayor, various trustees, and the village administrator.
“This extensive process included numerous meetings with each of the construction management companies and in-depth tours of recently constructed police departments these firms successfully managed.
“All three companies came highly recommended by various members of the law enforcement community, numerous mayors from other municipalities, and respected engineering and construction companies. Each of these presenting firms has a distinguished record in the municipal construction industry, demonstrating a commitment to excellence. It has been a privilege to engage with each team, hearing first hand their dedication to their craft and their understanding of the critical importance of delivering a state-of-the-art facility for the Village of Monee, especially for our police officers. The impressive qualifications and commitment demonstrated by each of these firms make this a very difficult, challenging, yet positive, decision for the board.” After brief comments, trustees selected Core Construction for the project.
They also chose Dewberry Engineering for the Professional Engineering Service Agreement for the project.
Bautista described Dewberry as a “highly qualified and nationally renowned firm.”
Bautista recommended the Elmhurst consulting firm “for their capacity to provide engineering services tailored to the specific needs of the Village of Monee.”
