Monee Mayor Therese Bogs took the oath of office during last week’s board meeting, the only mayor in more than a dozen years to win a second term.

Bogs was sworn in by Judge Victoria Kennison, along with Village Clerk Michelle Powell-Johnson and Trustees John Henson, Doug Horne, and Charles Rakis.

During her final meeting as village clerk, Doneshia Codjoe received an engraved plaque of appreciation from Bogs.

Codjoe did not run for a third term as clerk, instead choosing to unsuccessfully challenge Bogs for the mayor’s post.

In her farewell comments, Codjoe urged residents to always vote in elections.

“I want to give a thank you to the Village of Monee, as well as to the residents who have given me an opportunity to be elected in Monee and serve the community, not one, but two terms.

“It was great being a part of history for the past eight years. Came in with four children, leaving out with five.

“And so I want to thank all the residents who have always come out and always supported, always volunteered. No matter what the event was, they were always there. I appreciate it.

“I do also want to make sure I thank my family, because they have been there through everything. There’s been a lot of adventures through this time.

“I also want to thank my husband, as well, because first, before I took this oath, I took the oath before God and man for him. And while I’ve been there for everyone, including my kids, there was a period of time…I was not there because I stepped back because of…poor decisions. But I want to thank him for staying in the trenches and, just like I said, for my family. I appreciate it. Thank you.

“And good luck to everyone on your future endeavors,” she said.

Bogs, meanwhile, said

“I am excited to continue on our journey building Monee into an even better community than it already is. We have a great team working in unison to make that happen, and I am grateful for the support of our residents in allowing me to serve another four years.”
