Sinai Chicago hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 13 celebrating the opening of the renovated Emergency Department Triage at Holy Cross Hospital.
“This renovation is a reflection of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to high quality care to anyone that walks through our doors,” said Dr. Jeen Soo Chang, President and Chief Medical Officer at Holy Cross Hospital, 2701 W. 68th St.
“Our Emergency Department sees a high volume of patients every day and we know that walking through our doors often happens during some of life’s most difficult moments,” said Chang. “This renovated space is designed to help our patients feel safe, secure and welcomed from the moment they arrive.”
The project, which was 20 years in the making, is more than just a face-lift but rather is intended to be a transformation of the patient experience at Holy Cross.

Included in this project were the upgrades of the main entrance and vestibule, reception areas and triage rooms, corridors between registration, waiting rooms, and treatment areas, as well as, patient and EMS bathrooms and staff lounge.
The revamping of the above should allow for faster smoother care transition by improving the flow into the Emergency Department, reducing bottlenecks, speeding up check-ins, and beginning care sooner.
The streamlining and modernization of the entire area which also includes new comfortable spaces will allow for a better patient experience by reducing stress for patients, as well as, their families.
“This renovation is more than an upgrade to our emergency department – it’s a reflection of Sinai Chicago’s unwavering commitment to the health and dignity of our patients and the community we serve at Holy Cross Hospital,” said Dr. Ngozi Ezike, President and CEO of Sinai Chicago. “It’s a tangible sign of continued investment in our patients, in our neighborhoods and in the future of equitable healthcare on Chicago’s Southwest Side.”
The project itself took five months to complete at a cost of approximately $800,000, most coming from private donors.
The renovations were made possible with the generous support of Ross University School of Medicine. Thanks were also given to committed community partners which included Greater Southwest Development Corporation, Southwest Organizing Project, the Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Police Department.
Adrian Soto, Executive Director of GSDC, thanked Holy Cross for their vision and dedication and for continually putting the Southwest Side first.
In offering a blessing of the space, Father Lorenzo Gamboa, Chaplain at Holy Cross said, “I have the deepest reverence for the Sisters of St. Casimir who for so many years have walked with this community. May their legacy continue to guide us.”
