Reanna Hammad

The body of a 21-year-old woman missing since Friday morning was found early Sunday in Spears Woods in Willow Springs.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police issued a missing person’s report on Saturday for Reanna Hammad, of unincorporated Palos Township.

Forest Preserve officials said her body was found about 5:50 a.m. Sunday by a search party on a walking trail in Spears Woods. Police were searching in the area because they spotted her car in a nearby parking lot.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday ruled her death was self-inflicted.

The Prayer Center of Orland Park shared news that the woman’s body had been found. Mosque leaders had organized a group of volunteers to search for Hammad.

“First, may God have mercy on the girl and grant her a place in His spacious gardens, and grant her family patience and solace,” the Center posted on social media. “This is one of the most difficult situations any family can experience, and mere speculation about the cause of death is a torment in itself, in addition to the loss. We ask God to grant them steadfastness, patience, and certainty. Amen.

“Second, there’s no need to spread false and inaccurate information on social media. We await the circumstances of the incident and the results of the investigation.

“Third, this is a message to every girl or even young man: Yes, it’s true, in general, our areas are safe, but we cannot neglect caution and security measures!

“Do not go anywhere without the knowledge of your family. Always keep the GPS feature on your phone activated with a family member. Never, ever go places alone, whether girls or boys, always be with a friend or more.”

Sheriff’s Police said Hammad had last been seen by her mother around 11 a.m. Friday. Police said there were reports she might have been seen near Spears Woods later on Friday.

Funeral services for Hammad were held Tuesday.
