In a city split by baseball loyalties, Pope Leo XIV’s reported love for the Chicago Cubs is making waves — and drawing some unexpected pushback.
Multiple outlets, including ABC News, Block Club Chicago, and Marquee Sports Network, cited unnamed sources and columnist Kathy Headley in reporting that the newly elected pontiff, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, is a devoted Cubs fan.
It would make him the first known Cubs fan to ascend to the papacy — a symbolic blow to White Sox loyalists who hoped their South Side ties ran deeper.
But the story took a sharp turn when the Pope’s brother stepped in.
“That’s not true,” John Prevost told ABC 7’s Alex Perez. “He’s a Sox fan.”
John Prevost said their mother’s family rooted for the Cubs, but their father followed the St. Louis Cardinals. The future pope, he said, sided with the White Sox — proof, he added, that “he stands on his own two feet.”
The baseball debate quickly spilled onto social media, where Cubs fans cheered and Sox fans rolled their eyes. Marquee Sports Network ran segments celebrating the Pope’s rumored North Side allegiance. But now, even they may need to issue a divine retraction.

I wonder if this pope likes “little boys” like a lot of those other creepy Catholic priests????
