Josh Barta was almost perfect on April 25.

The Peotone senior pitched a four-inning no-hitter as the Blue Devils blanked visiting Grant Park 15-0.

Barta faced 14 batters, two over the minimum, striking out six and walking two to improve his record to 2-1 and lower his ERA to 2.13.

He also went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs as the Blue Devils moved to 6-11.

Joe Hasse doubled twice and drove in two runs for Peotone, while Ruben Velasco went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Lincoln Tierney also scored three times and Everett Carder was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Junior Sophie Klawitter struck out 23 batters over nine innings on April 25 and 26, picking up a win and a save as Peotone beat Grant Park 3-1 and edged Chicago Christian 7-6.

The Louisville commit has 209 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings and is 8-7 with one save.

The Blue Devils had won seven of nine through the end of last week to improve to 9-8.

Panthers back on roll

Manteno baseball followed a four-game losing streak by winning five in a row to finish last week at 13-4.

Sophomore Brady Hespen was batting .486 with 17 runs and 15 RBIs, while senior Nolan Canfield was 3-1 with 34 strikeouts and a 1.40 ERA — both team-bests.

Crete-Monee’s Omar Romo finished runner-up in EA Sports FC at the IHSA St. Xavier esports Sectional on April 26 to qualify for the state finals on May 3 at Evergreen Park.
