Portillo’s, the restaurant chain founded in 1963 in Villa Park by Summit’s own Dick Portillo, made its name selling hot dogs, Polish sausages and Italian beef sandwiches.

Portillo sold the business for $1 billion in 2014.

Starting this week, the chain is testing a breakfast menu at a handful of locations including the only south suburban one at 159th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. Others are in the South Loop, Shorewood, Niles, and Elmhurst.

The early bird menu will be served from 6:30-10:30 a.m.

Items on the new menu include breakfast sandwiches such as Polish Sausage, Egg & Cheese,

Pepper, Egg & Cheese, Bacon, Egg and Cheese. Sides include Loaded Breakfast Scramble, Hash Brown Bites, Bacon, and a Fresh Fruit Cup.

There will also be a breakfast meal deal: get any breakfast sandwich, a small classic coffee, and hash brown bites for just $7.99.

Portillo’s is also partnering with Stan’s Donuts to create a Chocolate Cake Donut, a chocolate old-fashioned doughnut dipped in chocolate glaze and drizzled with their famous chocolate cake frosting.

No breakfast menu is complete without coffee. Portillo’s will offer Metropolis Coffee – hot or iced. There will also be Chocolate Cake Iced Coffee along with Vanilla Iced Coffee.
