On March 1, Peotone Police and Manhattan Fire responded to a crash at Hauert Street and Chestnut Lane, where the driver fled on foot after striking two parked vehicles. A search was conducted but yielded no results. The driver, Walsh, M/W, 22, later was located and cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Damage to an Attended Vehicle. He was issued a mandatory court appearance.
On March 1, Peotone Police and Manhattan Fire responded to a crash blocking the roadway at S. Rathje and W. Wilmington-Peotone Roads. No injuries were reported, and all parties refused medical assistance. The vehicles were towed, and a property damage accident report was completed.
On March 2, a business owner, in the 400 block of S. Governors Highway, reported the theft of a gray 2022 RC enclosed trailer (IL Lic/ 405183TC). Surveillance footage of the theft was reviewed, and the vehicle was entered into the national database. The case has been turned over to Peotone Investigations.
On March 5 while patrolling, an officer arrived at the scene of a recent crash, at W. Crawford and N. Conrad Streets. No injuries were reported. A 17-year-old female driver was cited for Improper Backing on a Roadway.
IDOT STEP Enforcement for St. Patrick’s Day, March 7 – 18: The Peotone Police Department will conduct increased traffic enforcement as part of IDOT’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). Officers will focus on DUI enforcement, seatbelt compliance, and distracted driving violations. Residents are urged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver. Drive sober and buckle up!
