An ordinance was approved to reinforce specific vehicle parking regulations throughout the Village of Evergreen Park.

The amended ordinance was passed and approved by a 5-0 margin during the Evergreen Park Village Board meeting Monday night. The board said these rules apply for a parking lot near or along a school, house of worship, hospital building, shopping center, commercial or industrial facility, or an apartment or condo complexes.

“This ordinance is updated each year,” said Mayor Kelly Burke. “We just want to make it clear and keep it up to date through our police department.”

Specific parking spaces for persons with disabilities should be displayed with authorized disability license plates or decals by the owner of the vehicles, according to the ordinance.

Drivers also should not park near a designated fire line or traffic lane, or within 20 feet of a fire hydrant, water standpipe, or a fire exit door, according to the ordinance.

Another amended ordinance was approved by a 5-0 vote to update village zoning guidelines.

“We had changes in our zoning laws recently and we also need to have them up to date,” Burke said.

Employee of the Quarter

Burke and board members honored Sarah Childers Brady as the “Employee of the Quarter” during the meeting. Brady is the current director of the Evergreen Park Recreation Department Preschool.

Brady became a preschool teacher in 2013 and was selected to become the director in 2021. She was nominated as Employee of the Quarter by Beth Novotney, director of the Office of Citizen Services.

According to Novotney, Brady has been an outstanding director and continues to introduce new programs and provides excellence for preschool lessons. Brady has also introduced activities for Halloween, and face painting at the new Santa’s Wonderland event that took place in December.

She also provides tours of the preschool building outside of the usual class hours for parents or guardians who want to see it.

“You can see that she has a lot of love for education,” according to Novotney.

Burke presented a certificate and a $50 gift for Wolf’s Bakery to Brady and thanked her for her hard work.

The mayor added that not only is Brady an outstanding preschool director but is also the best throughout the immediate area.
