At the Kankakee County Board meeting on January 14, Economic Alliance Director Tim Nugent presented the organization’s annual report.
Members were told EV battery manufacturer Gotion was the top driver of economic investment in the county in 2024, dropping $2 billion into their under-construction plant on the site of the former Kmart Distribution Warehouse.
Nugent said the plant will bring 2,600 new jobs to Manteno when it is in full operation. Nugent also said the Economic Alliance “has been successful in getting a $4.1 million grant from the federal government for repairs and renovation of the roof of the building that is on the former Roper property.”
That building currently houses a manufacturing and industrial park used by several companies that employ 140 workers.
