Rita Fabijonas, 92, of Kaunas, Lithuania, died Dec. 14, 2024, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Romas Fabijonas, to whom she was married for 64 years.
Survivors include her children, Judith Stanislovaitis (Adrian), Paul, Andrew, Sylvia Comeaux (Angelo), and Bruce (Stephanie); grandchildren Victoria (Jason), Angelo Jr., David, and Lana; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Michelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ligija Ambutas.
Born to Lt. Col. Karolis and Ona Dabulevicius, she fled with her family to Germany during World War II and later emigrated to the United States. After settling in Chicago, she graduated from high school and worked at Cook County Hospital as a pharmacist until her retirement.
A devout Catholic and active member of the Lithuanian scouting community, Fabijonas wrote rhyming verses that often became camp songs or hymns. She contributed to scouting publications and embraced her Lithuanian heritage throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Lithuanian Catholic Mission, 14911 E. 127th St., Lemont, IL 60439. Arrangements are by Foran Funeral Home.
