Herminia C. Puente, 87, a devoted mother and cherished grandmother known affectionately as “Mama Puente,” died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, coinciding with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Born April 25, 1937, Herminia was a longtime resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge community. She was married for 51 years to Jose Luis Puente, who preceded her in death in 2011. Together, they built a large, loving family.
Herminia is survived by her children: Teresa (Enrique) Gaitan, Ana (Rafael) Diaz, Martha Puente, Luis (Carmen) Puente, Silvia Puente, Jose Puente, Irma (Roy) Villarreal, Patricia (Alejandro) Carrillo, and the memories of her late children, Gisela (Ramiro) Ruiz. Her legacy extends to 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Known as the cornerstone of her family, Herminia was admired for teaching kindness, honesty, integrity, and generosity. Her unwavering love and dedication left an indelible mark on her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. Additional visitation will take place Monday, Dec. 16, from 8:30 a.m. until prayers at 9 a.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish. Herminia will be laid to rest beside her husband at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in her memory to honor the lessons she shared.
