Zlata “Goldie” Zakic (née Simunic), a longtime resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge community, passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Mato Zakic.
Mrs. Zakic was the loving mother of Steve Zakic, who survived her along with his wife, Theresa Zakic. She was the proud grandmother of Anthony Zakic.
Born into a close-knit family, Mrs. Zakic was the fond sister of Milica Filor, whose husband, Manfred, had preceded her in death, and the late Stefica Fijacko, who had been married to the late Jure Fijacko. She was also a dear niece of the late Dagica Ilijas and her husband, Malden Ilijas.
Visitation was held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit, Ill. A second visitation took place Friday from 8:30 a.m. until prayers began at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish. Mrs. Zakic was laid to rest beside her husband, Mato, at Resurrection Cemetery.
