At the Bradley Village Board meeting on Monday, November 25, the village board agreed to spend $6.5 million to acquire all of Northfield Square Mall. The village already owns portions of the property. Mayor Mike Watson said redevelopment of the property is the plan moving forward, leaving little doubt the mall’s days as a retail center are over.
One idea under consideration, according to Watson, is to use the property as the location of a proposed waterpark, but that plan still has many hurdles in front of it. Watson said a number of proposals for the land will be considered.
As of now, there is no estimate on construction costs for a water park or its daily operational costs. Watson says that information will be forthcoming soon. A preliminary estimate put the construction price tag at $45 million.
