Kankakee Sold on Effectiveness of Shotspotter

At its Monday, November 18, meeting, the Kankakee City Council authorized the renewal of a contract with ShotSpotter Respond for a system that alerts police to gunfire incidents. The resolution to spend $49,500 for another year of the subscription service states the Mayor and City Council have determined it is in the best interest of the city and its residents to authorize the renewal.  The new contract with ShotSpotter runs through November 8, 2025.

In the City of Chicago, the system has been a source for controversy and, after some moves to end it there, it has been allowed to remain in place over the objection of Mayor Brandon Johnson.
