At the Bourbonnais Village Board Meeting on Monday, November 18, it was announced by Mayor Paul Schore that Police Chief Jim Phelps will retire in February of next year. Phelps has been at the helm of the Bourbonnais Department for the past 12 years.
In his retirement announcement letter, Phelps said he is satisfied with the progress and advancements of the department and said he feels Bourbonnais Police are the best trained, most professional police organization in the area. Phelps said his last day on the job will be February 4, 2025.
In other business, Bourbonnais released details of its property tax levy for next year. Finance Director Tara Latz said there will be no increase in the Bourbonnais portion of resident’s property tax. Latz said most residents will see a decrease of between $8 and $28 on their bill. The tax levy due next year is expected to get final approval at the next board meeting on December 2.
Also at the November 18 meeting, trustees congratulated two Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center Boy’s Cross-Country runners, who took first and second place in the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 4A competition in October in Normal.
Braydon Domont, an eighth grader, finished first in the two-mile race and set a new state record with a time of 10 minutes, 7.97 seconds. His teammate, eighth grader Luca Nims finished second in the same race with a time of 10 minutes, 29.2 seconds.
