Group photo of everyone that participated in the Veterans Day Run. Photo submitted.

The Veterans Day Run organizers’ goal is to remind students of Veterans Day, instill some pride in their country, and let them feel they are a part of it.

All veterans and military are urged to join the annual Veterans Day Run, on November 11, to the three Manteno Schools, plus downtown Manteno, where students and spectators will be celebrating the day! Running at an 11-minute-mile pace, dressed in battle gear, and carrying patriotic flags for four miles, participants will be escorted by various military organizations riding in their battlecruisers and military vehicles, along with the Manteno Police Department.

The group will step off promptly at 8 a.m. from the Heritage Park parking lot on Monday, November 11, and proceed to the grade school on Cook Street, where students will be greeted in front of the school.

Upon leaving the grade school, runners will turn right at the west exit of the school onto Cook and go west to Southcreek, turn right/north to County Highway 9, right/east on Highway 9 to North Poplar, left/north to the middle school and arrive at 8:15 a.m. Leaving the middle school, runners will go east on Park to Maple, then turn left/north and proceed to the high school, arriving at 8:20 a.m.

When leaving the high school, the group will go south on Maple to Third, then left/east to Main Street, and another stop at 8:30 a.m.

They then will go south on Main Street to Division, turn left/east to North Oak, left/north to Third, then east to Rt. 50, arriving at approximately 8:40 a.m.

After leaving Rt. 50, the group will proceed south to Division, then west to County Highway 9, followed by a left/west to Southcreek. Another left takes the group south to Cook, then east to Heritage Park, arriving around 9 a.m. Hope you see you along the way!
