In partnership with Evergreen Climate Innovations, Nicor Gas announces Natural Science has been awarded the 2024 Nicor Gas Multicultural Innovator Award – a $25,000 equity and inclusion grant that supports clean energy technology startups with a minority founder or CEO. This award recognizes Natural Science’s work in using electromagnetism and natural materials to remediate chemical spills and clean water without the use of harmful chemicals.
“We are thrilled to announce Natural Science as the 2024 Nicor Gas Multicultural Innovator Award,” said Meena Beyers, vice president of Business and Community Development at Nicor Gas. “We’re building the future of energy, and one of the ways we do that is by supporting entrepreneurs in clean and climate technologies, with partners like Evergreen Climate Innovations. Natural Science’s approach to environmental remediation not only addresses critical environmental challenges but also paves the way for a cleaner, greener future.”
Natural Science’s advanced technology significantly reduces the environmental impact of harmful agents and carbon dioxide-producing methods, offering a sustainable alternative to incumbent technologies. The company provides two primary solutions: An electromagnetic system-based solution for remediating oil spills on water and a hydrophobic sorbent material that magnetically traps land-based environmental spills, including oils, fuels, chemicals and polychlorinated biphenyls.
“Receiving the 2024 Nicor Gas Multicultural Innovator Award is a tremendous honor for Natural Science,” said Arden Warner, Natural Science co-founder and principal scientist. “This recognition validates our efforts to develop sustainable, innovative solutions for environmental remediation. We are committed to continuing our work in reducing the environmental impact of chemical spills and contributing to a healthier planet.”
The Nicor Gas Multicultural Innovator Award was launched in 2021 with Evergreen Climate Innovations to support small Illinois businesses making a positive environmental impact throughout the state. Natural Science is the fourth recipient of the annual award. In addition to the grant, Natural Science will receive 12 months of business mentorship and heightened exposure to investors and customers.
