In apparent reaction to residents’ pushback, the Will County Board postponed a vote on a large solar project at its Thursday, September 19, meeting.
With the item on the meeting agenda, a large contingent of residents living nearby had shown up at the meeting to express their opposition to the plan, which would build a solar energy facility on a site encompassing nearly 3,590 acres. The site would be near Custer and Reed Townships, generally south of Smiley Road, east of Essex Road, just north of County Line Road, and along both sides of Ohlhues Road.
According to the company behind the project, new information has been made available to it, and they want time to review. The vote now is scheduled to happen during the November county board meeting.
During the same meeting, the board approved the siting of a solar energy facility, with a special use permit, for the project that would be located near Beecher, on vacant property on south Western Avenue.
