Beecher’s boys soccer team went on an offensive explosion in back-to-back games and a pair of players broke records and hit milestones.
On Sept. 3, the Bobcats mauled St. Anne 10-0 and two days later crushed Illinois Lutheran, 9-0.
Logan Wilkins score three goals in the St. Anne game while Wences Baumgartner added two and Axel Avila was credited with three assists.
Wilkins became the first Bobcat to hit 100 career goals.
In the Illinois Lutheran triumph, goalie Jimmy Kypuros notched his 29th career shutout, which is a school record.
Rudolph a part of stunner
Northern Illinois University pulled off a huge stunner on Sept. 7 with a 16-14 win over fifth-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend.
It was the biggest win in the history of the Huskies football program and it might go down as the biggest upset in the 2024 college football season.
Crete-Monee grad Trayvon Rudolph got in on the fun as the redshirt senior wide receiver played but did not have a reception. He did have a rushing attempt for five yards. He also threw an incomplete pass.
Rudolph entered this season with 116 career catches for 1,660 yards. He had 1,388 kick return yards, which is the sixth best in NIU history.
He came to NIU as a walk-on in 2020 and was a freshman All-American.
Ready for Rose
While it’s still early in the football season, it’s not too early for boys basketball news as the Team Rose Shootout will take place on Dec. 14-15 at Mount Carmel High School.
Crete-Monee is one of the teams that picked up an invitation as the Warriors are scheduled to face St. Ignatius at 12:30 on Dec. 15.
Marian Catholic faces Lemont at 12:20 on Dec. 14.
Tackling star
Crete-Monee grad Terry Elias Jr. led St. Xavier University with nine tackles in the Cougars’ 31-7 season opening win over Lawrence Tech on Sept. 7 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Five of those tackles were solos.
