After running wild in Stagg’s season-opening victory, Olaf Kozub bested that effort in Week 2 to help the Chargers to a second straight win.
Kozub, a junior running back, totaled 351 yards from scrimmage, including 19 carries for 285 yards rushing (15 yards per carry) and scoring runs of 1, 29 and 65 yards in a 28-13 win over Oak Lawn. He also tallied on a 66-yard catch-and-run.
Kozub ran for 224 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 in a 49-20 win over Joliet Central.
“Olaf has had two huge weeks in terms of all-purpose yards,” Stagg coach Jacob O’Connor said. “He runs with a nice intensity. He doesn’t stop his feet and he just keeps going.
“Olaf is just a student of the game and that shows on the field.”
Kozub’s effort was aided by the Chargers offensive line: center Waseem Gorchene; guards Jamal Hakawati, Manny Segovia and Terrell Williams; and tackles Marcin Turza and Oscar Guerrero along with tight ends Tre Washington and Michael Kos.
“Our line was huge,” O’Connor said. “They did a great job of resetting the line of scrimmage. They got a good push and they held their blocks. Olaf made his cuts and hit the open field.”
Stagg junior safety Saul Corral had an interception.
Oak Lawn fell to 0-2.
