Oak Lawn police make arrest in 2022 robbery at Reichman Jewelers
Oak Lawn police have arrested a suspect in the July 2022 robbery of Reichman Jewelers in which one of the co-owners was shot and critically wounded.
The robbery occurred at 2 p.m. on July 1, 2022. Three male black men entered the store, drew their firearms and disarmed the security guard. As the robbery continued, the co-owner emerged from the rear of the store and was shot twice by one of the robbers.
The three robbers smashed the glass jewelry cases, removed jewelry and then fled the scene in a vehicle.
The victim was rushed to the hospital and survived the attack.
Early last month, Oak Lawn Police detectives were alerted by the Illinois State Police Forensic Laboratory of a DNA match in this case. The match came from physical evidence that was recovered at the crime scene.
Dionte Reed, 20, was allegedly identified as one of the three robbers and detectives began working to locate him. Detectives obtained attempted murder and armed robbery arrest warrants for Reed.
Oak Lawn Police detectives in conjunction with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and Bloomington, Indiana, Police Department homed in on a location for Reed in southern Indiana. Reed was taken into custody and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
On August 2, Oak Lawn Police detectives travelled to Monroe County and transported Reed back to the Oak Lawn Police Department before transferring him to the Cook County Jail for a detention hearing. Reed was ordered detained by the Honorable Judge Srivastava. Reed’s next hearing is set to take place at the Bridgeview Courthouse in Room 103 on August 29.

Reichman Jewelers had been selling fine jewelry since 1908. First, at 4949 S. Ashland Ave. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, and since 1984 at the Oak Lawn location at 4439 W. 95th St.
Co-owners Paul Stein and Odysseus “Odyss” Tsarouhis closed the Oak Lawn store at the end of 2022 and moved to a new location at 7667 W. 95th St. in Hickory Hills. They are open by appointment only at the new location.
