Dear Governor Pritzker:

Residents in my district and across the southland are incredibly frustrated by skyrocketing property tax bills, and they are rightfully demanding action from their elected leaders.

As undocumented border crossings decline, I am strongly urging your administration to redirect $100 million of funding intended for migrant issues and instead support direct property tax relief payments for qualifying modest-income homeowners in the south suburbs.

Specifically, we should start with direct relief payments for those living in Bloom, Rich, Thornton, and Bremen Township, who recently received their triennial reassessment.

Many of these families already are living on tight budgets, and unexpected higher property taxes are devastating. Elected leaders must work together and deliver real, immediate relief, while we continue to work towards a comprehensive, long-term solution.

Our state government can and should play a crucial role in addressing property taxes. We can better incentivize local governments to freeze and reduce rates by prioritizing education funding and increasing the amount delivered through the Local Government Distributive Fund.

Residents expect us to prioritize and deliver on their concerns, and these proposals would provide critically-needed support.

I appreciate your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Anthony DeLuca
