Mallory Swanson has been showing Chicago Red Stars fans that she has recovered nicely from a knee injury and surgery that kept her out of action most of 2023.
Now, the rest of the world can see her progress.
Swanson scored two goals in a 70-second span to help the U.S. to a 3-0 win over Zambia on July 25 in Nice, France, to open play in the 2024 Summer Olympics. She added a goal in a 3-1 victory over Germany on July 28.
The Red Stars’ other representative on the team, Alyssa Naeher, recorded the shutout in the first game and allowed an early goal to Germany in the second.
The U.S. was scheduled to end the group stage against Australia on July 31 before heading to bracket play. After starting the tournament 2-0 they were guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals.
