At approximately 4:22 p.m. on July 10, the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported structural fire in the 200 block of West Street in Peotone.
The first units arrived on scene within three minutes of the initial call for service. Fire crews reported moderate smoke and flames showing from a two-story residential structure. A full still was activated for additional personnel and equipment.
Firefighters quickly established water supply and immediately began the fire attack. Within 15 minutes of the first arrival, the fire was contained to the kitchen and extinguished. All occupants safely evacuated the building, and no injuries were reported of civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire currently is under investigation by MABAS19 Investigators.
Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the Manhattan Fire Stations to cover any additional calls for service during that time, including fire protection districts from Beecher, Frankfort, Manteno, Matteson, Wilmington, East Joliet, and Channahon.
