The Beecher Lions Club’s 19th annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk will be held on July 4, at 8 a.m., in Beecher. The 3.1-mile race starts and finishes at Fireman’s Park, on Penfield Street, and will wind through the streets of Beecher. Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers and also awarded to the top finishers in standard five-year age group.
Cost of the race is $17 for pre-registered participants, but $25 on race day, with registration from 7 to 7:45 a.m. T-shirts only are available through online registration at a cost of $13; visit www.runsignup, then search for Beecher Freedom 5K. The Freedom 5K is one of the Lions Club’s major fundraisers, with proceeds given back to the community through donations to nonprofit groups, scholarships, in addition to glasses and hearing aid assistance for those in need.
The Beecher Lions Club, in existence since 1981, has donated thousands of dollars to local charities over the years and can often be seen volunteering at many other community functions.
