On May 23, at approximately 12:20 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in the parking lot of Monee Elementary School. Upon arrival, a pair of witnesses advised officers they saw a female subject ‘roughing-up’ a child in the parking lot area. They described the female as very angry and grabbing at a child’s neck and nearly pushing him to the ground.
While obtaining the initial complaint, officers were informed more witnesses had called the school, stating a female subject appeared to be hitting a child inside a car leaving the area. The information immediately was relayed to area patrol units, while the initial evidence was being gathered. Ultimately, Monee PD was able to identify the suspect and victim from witness statements and school sources.
A short time later, the child was dropped-off at the school by his mother. The school nurse and officers were able to determine what had happened and that injuries may have been incurred. The child was transported to Franciscan in Olympia Fields for treatment. MPD Detectives, in conjunction with the Department of Children and Family Services Investigators and the Will County State Attorney, were able to put together enough evidence to seek the arrest of Mariah Taylor, 24, of University Park. With the assistance of University Park Officers, Taylor was located and agreed to turn herself in to Monee PD. Taylor was taken into custody at 9 p.m. and charged with aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, and endangering the life or health of a child.
