Soul Collections Book Discussion: Join the Kankakee Public Library for its monthly book group, Soul Collections, a program that highlights Black authors and themes. On Thursday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m., the group will meet to discuss the “New York Times” bestseller “Somebody’s Daughter: A Memoir,” by Ashley C. Ford.

This debut tells the story of a childhood defined by the looming absence of the author’s incarcerated father. Ford takes the reader on her journey to find the threads between who she is and what she was born into, in addition to the complicated familial love that often binds them. This event is free and open to the public.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 28, at 9 a.m. For ways to still access library resources, such as e-books and Kanopy streaming services, visit lions-online.org!
