Stickney celebrates Cinco de Mayo
A band was on hand to keep the party going.

The Village of Stickney didn’t disappoint this year with its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Village Trustee Leandra Torres, who is the Co-Chaiman of the Parks and Recreation Commission along with Trustee Jim Hrejsa, said it was a fun-filled day.
“We had 774 people attend this year,” she said. “It was free admission. Food and drinks were the only cost. The music was great, the children loved the petting zoo with lots of baby animals, and the kids especially loved the face painter!
A jump house was set up to keep the children entertained.
“We had the kids color pictures that are in the village hall lobby, and five winners to be picked by our next board meeting.
“Necklaces and slap bracelets were given out, and they and got to pick out candy from the piñata. We had ice cream and churros, tamales, tacos, beef sandwiches, hot dogs, lemon shake-ups and popcorn. There was a wide variety…something for everyone.
“Some of our vendors gave out useful information and prizes. Home Depot and Sam’s Club each brought raffle prizes and gifts for the kids. McDonald’s donated hamburgers and cheeseburgers. The jump house also went over big. I just love seeing all of the children so happy, and we as a village love doing this for them.”
Torres added that they couldn’t have done it all without the help of their priceless volunteers. “It really is a team effort.”
