Palos Park finance director heading to Westmont

Palos Park was in good hands with Altic.

Finance director/treasurer Allen Altic is leaving the village later this month to take a similar position in Westmont, just a few miles from his home in Downers Grove.

Altic was an assistant finance director in Bloomingdale from 2012 to 2020, when he was hired on in Palos Park during the pandemic.

“It’s been four years that I had the opportunity to work with this young man,” Commissioner G. Darryl Reed said at the May 13 village council meeting. “He’s my right arm when it comes to financial matters.

“Not only is Allen a very good worker, Allen’s a great person. And I don’t say that about too many people. The young man was someone you can rely on and would do things without you asking because he saw the need for it to be done.”

Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walters added: “Your new place is going to be very lucky to have you.”

Reed also announced that the village earned a certificate of excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association for the 25^th straight year and he lauded Altic for carrying on the legacy.

After the meeting, Altic looked fondly on his four years in the village.

“I had an opportunity to be involved in a lot of different stuff, here,” he said. “We’ve issued bonds and now we’re doing $3 million paving of the roads and that’s pretty cool.

“We’re opening a new playground and new tennis courts and playing a role in those types of activities has been rewarding. We have a lot of good programs.”

His final day in Palos Park is May 24.

“He gave us four good years of his life, and you can’t ask for more than that,” Reed said. “Now he can spread his wings and fly.”

 Other business

• Milovich-Walters gave a special mention to eighth-grade gymnast Kennedy Black for an elite finish in the state and to Elizabeth Polk for graduating from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with an animal sciences degree and will continue there for more schooling to become a veterinarian. It’s the first meeting the mayor recognized Palos Park resident for accomplishments, and she plans of doing it each meeting.
• The council approved a $2 million Illinois Environmental Protection Agency loan agreement to pay for the extension of the village water main from west of Will-Cook Road to west of Bell Road.
• A roadway paving estimate of $182,000 was approved to Thornton-based Gallagher Asphalt.
