GallasJOANNE GALLAS

Joanne Gallas, a beloved figure in her community and a dedicated homemaker, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Joanne dedicated her life to nurturing her family and enriching the lives of the many students she encountered through her work with the Chicago Public School System.

Married to Mitchell Gallas since 1965, Joanne’s partnership with him was a cornerstone of her life, marked by shared love and mutual support. The couple was blessed with a son, Christopher, who predeceased Joanne in 2020, a testament to the close-knit family they were.

Joanne was an avid reader, always eager to dive into a new book, which kept her mind sharp and her heart open. Her reading was not just a hobby but a pathway to learning more about the world and the people in it, reflecting her innate curiosity and intelligence.

Those who knew Joanne will remember her as a kind and sweet soul, always ready to lend a hand or an ear to those in need. Her impact on her community and all who knew her was profound, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Mitch, granddaughter Rebecca Gallas, brother Walter (Carol) Lis and her nieces and nephew. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Home Angels for their loving care. A Memorial Mass in Celebration of Joanne’s life will be scheduled at a later date.  In lieu flowers a donation in honor of Joanne to Marklund, a nonprofit organization that serves adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities.
