Argo High School holds Iftar Dinner for community
A good crowd came out for the annual Argo High School Iftar Dinner.

More than 100 people gathered at Argo Community High School last week for a now annual Ramadan Iftar dinner organized by Argo teacher Nadia Elkhatib.
Elkhatib was happy with the turnout for those coming Thursday night to break bread with the school’s Muslim students and their families.
“I will continue to do this event and it’s open to everyone in the Argo community,” she said.
Nemeh Khatib and Minna Sulieman posed for a picture at last week’s Iftar dinner at Argo High School.
The festivities began at 6:30 p.m., with dinner being served at sunset. During Ramadan, Muslims must fast from sun up to sunset.
Dinner was catered by Al Bawadi Grill in Bridgeview.
Elkhatib explained that the event is a dinner for breaking the fast observed by Muslims during the month of Ramadan.
The following day, Argo High School teacher and Equity Director, Jon Leonard, said it was a wonderful event.
“A big thank you to Nadia Elkhatib for all her hard work in putting together the Ramadan Iftar dinner last night,” he said. “The community turnout was incredible, and it was a joy to be with our students and their families.
“Thanks also to Grace Drobny and Milosh Lukovic for attending. And a very warm thank you to Nemeh Khatib and Cole Hurd for all their help in serving and cleaning up.
“Finally, thank you to Brett Lettiere, John Dagres, and board member Diane Ponce for not only coming but staying the whole evening and breaking bread with our students and their families. My apologies if I overlooked anyone else who came out – it was a busy night full of joy and community.”
