Adyn McGinley is going to be a Chap.
McGinley, the top scorer and all-around player for Beecher’s historic boys basketball team, committed to the College of DuPage.
McGinley leaves the Bobcats program scoring 1,545 career points. The team was 93-17 in his four-year career.
This year, the 6-foot guard made several all-area and all-state teams after averaging 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.7 steals for a team that made it to the Elite Eight in Class 2A.
His next team, nicknamed the Chaparrals, finished 17-14 this season and features McGinley’s former teammate, Adrian Llamas, on the lineup. Llamas played in 14 games for DuPage.
Another player from close by – Lincoln-Way East grad Tylon Toliver – played for the Chapparals and averaged nine points per game.
IBCA love
Beecher coach Tyler Shireman picked up some good news as he was named the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association District 9 Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 34-1 season and a berth in the supersectional.
Beecher eighth-grade coach Kaya Hise was also named the District 9 Coach of the Year by the IBCA for the second straight season after leading her team to a 19-5 mark and a trip to the Illinois Elementary School Association quarterfinals.
Titanic throw
Crete-Monee freshman Ayomide Olanrewaju set the school indoor record with a shot put throw of 35 feet, 9 inches at the Chris Whitfield Invitational at Thornton.
Tennessee whisking
Manteno’s softball team hit the road and earned a four-game sweep.
The Panthers took a trip to Tennessee and had some success in playing a four-game set against out-of-state teams.
They opened with a victory over Camden Central and a triumph over LaVergne on March 22.
The next day, they collected wins over Livingston Academy and Macon County to improve to 7-0.
Who is playing where?
The Illinois High School Association released assignments for a couple of sports – softball and girls soccer.
Beecher’s softball team finished in second place in the state in Class 2A last year and are looking to climb one more step to the top.
The Bobcats, Manteno and Peotone are at the Herscher Sectional.
In Class 3A, Crete-Monee heads to the Lemont Sectional.
In Class 2A girls soccer, Crete-Monee is at the Kankakee Sectional. In Class 1A, Beecher and Manteno are in Subsectional B of the Herscher Sectional while Peotone is in Subsectional A.
